Cream-colored furnishings set the stage for the tranquility the homeowners requested in their master bedroom. An antique gilded crystal chandelier descends from the tray ceiling while natural light streams in through shutters that appear in all second-floor rooms. For an unexpected element, Romanowski placed glazed linen chairs at the foot of the bed instead of the typical bench or sofa.
The beams that distinguish the living room are carried through to the family room. “The room needed some detail,” designer Diane Romanowski says. A creamy neutral palette marks the space, with detail and texture provided by fabrics that include a beige and taupe crewel window treatment, a tone-on-tone cream wool rug, and cream chenille sofa.
Next to the living room, the dining room was a good place for a punch of color, Romanowski says. The walls are faux strié lacquer in cerulean blue. “It makes the dining room stand out from the other rooms,” she says, “and also brings your eye into the space as you go down the hall.” She created additional pow with a goldleaf mirror that adds sparkle and reflects the crystal chandelier over the dining table.
